Feeling hot hot hot

At the moment there’s a heatwave going on in my country (Belgium) and today the temperature got above 35°C. I’m so exhausted. I haven’t slept well the last 3 days because I’ve been too warm at night then I end up falling asleep from the heat during the early afternoon.

Inside my apartment it’s 28°C so instead of doing FitStar, as usual, I have been going for an early morning bike ride. I’ve found that if I go out between 9 am and 11 am then it’s cool enough to cycle and I get a nice breeze from cycling to cool me down. I’ve also been drinking plenty of water. The aloe vera drink from Herbalife really helps me drink more water as I tend to not like the taste of plain water.

Weekly update: W2

You’ve probably noticed that I haven’t been using FitStar as much. I’ve got a lot of pain in my left heel at the moment so I went to the doctor and he’s diagnosed me with a heel spur. I have to rest my foot and take some anti-inflammatory medicines for the next week. I’m going to have to find some other sport to do. The heel spur has to do with my weight issues. That’s why I really want to shed kilos with Herbalife.

The strange thing I’ve noticed about building muscle is that I’ve put on weight yet lost centimetres around my waist.

The change isn’t as drastic as the first week but I’m still pleased. Every little step counts.

My mixer broke this week. I had one of the magic bullet mixers and the inner plastic ring seal came loose and got caught in the blades which caused strain on the motor and now it’s busted.

It’s also really hot this week, over 33°C, which leaves me feeling really irritable. I’ve taken to eating frozen fruit at the moment to cool me down.

I’ve also noticed that I feel so tired after eating bread. I decided to forgo my shake at the weekend and eat a sandwich and withing half an hour I was so tired I fell asleep on the sofa for an hour. It’s not the first time this has happened even before I started on my shakes. I think there must be something in bread that I can’t deal with. I don’t seem to have problems with rice or any other grains. From now on I’m sticking to shakes in the afternoon.

Other than that I’m feeling fantastic.

 

Meal routine

Here’s my shake routine:

Morning shake

  • Oatmeal 20-30 grammes
  • Herbalife Formula 1 Vanilla or strawberry (depending on my mood) 1-1.5 scoops
  • 2 tablespoons of low-fat yoghurt
  • A piece of fruit (usually a banana)
  • Soy milk. I keep adding until I get the consistency I like. I prefer to have my shake kind of thick in the morning.

Morning snack

  • Usually a piece of fruit or handful of almonds

Lunch

  • Depends on what I’m doing. If I’ve got time for it I make a sandwich with salad and cheese and have yoghurt for desert.
  • If I don’t have a lot of time I drink a shake.

Mid afternoon

  • I tend to eat a healthy snack. I search online for recipes.

Evening

  • Dinner but I try to make sure that 50 % of my plate is vegetables. 25% carbs and 25% protein. I’ll eat yoghurt or quark for desert.

Drinks

  • The night before I usually make up the Herbalife lemon tea. I do one spoonful of it to 1 litre of water and add two capfuls of Aloe Vera Mango as well. That usually lasts me all morning and keeps my energy levels up.
  • In the afternoon I make up another litre of water with Aloe Vera Mango. This lasts me until the evening.
  • The rest of the evening I drink plain water. Some days 2 litres is enough for me other days I end up drinking 2.5-3 litres of water.

Excercise

  • I’ve just started on FitStar Premium and I do a session I do the daily dose sessions since they are easiest to fit into my day and don’t take long.

Weekly update: W1

I’ve decided that daily updates are hard to do when short on time so instead I’m going to post minimum once a week. I’ll also be posting my FitStar sessions and the occasional recipe.

So it’s been a week since I started the Herbalife trial. There have been some ups and downs. On the positive note, I’ve lost half a kilo. Centimetres lost so far.

I’m really pleased with my first week.

Friday wasn’t so great. I had been doing really well all week until then. I was invited round to my mother’s for dinner and we ended up going to a chip shop.

Sunday evening was hard to resist because there was chocolate in the house. My partner often brings snacks into the house even when I’d prefer not to so I ended up having a snaccident (binge) on chocolate. I feel shakey now since my sugar level is through the roof and all week I’ve been really careful about it.

Self-control is an issue I need to work on.

Cucumber experiment

This afternoon wanted to try a more savoury shake so I looked in my fridge and spotted some cucumber. This was the result:

  • Half a cucumber
  • Herbalife lemon tea
  • A dash of soy milk
  • A scoop of Herbalife Formula 1 vanilla protein powder

I blitzed it in my Magic Bullet and ended up with this. It was a hot day and it felt really refreshing. I was surprised how tastey it was.

Good morning

The night before I made a mixture of the aloe and tea drink, which I stored overnight in the fridge. As soon as I woke up I had one glass of this and then started my morning workout. I don’t feel confident enough to go to the gym so I decided to try the FitStar app. I’ve been using it for the past few weeks and I find it enjoyable with enough variation to keep me interested. It is also cheaper than a year’s subscription to a gym and since I already had a FitBit watch I figured: why not? I’ll probably do a review on the app in the future.

After my workout I drank another glass of my aloe and tea cocktail, then my shake and ate an apple since I still felt a little peckish. So far I feel alert and I am able to concentrate on my work better than usual.

One of my biggest issues is getting enough hydration so the aloe drink definitely helps me drink enough water. Right now the weather where I’m from isn’t so bad but last week it was very hot and I had a headache from not drinking enough. The aloe drink makes it easier to drink water as I only need a cupful per 500ml just to get rid of the funny aftertaste in the tap water here.
